DESCRIPTION
A chain drive version of our belt drive clutch, not an absolute copy of an original but an updated and improved version that integrates right into a chain primary drive set up.
42 tooth drum to suit 1/2" x 5/16" chain as fitted to Primary Drive's on all things British including Manx Norton AJS 7R and Matchless G50 as well as Norton, AJS, Matchless & Triton street machines that use the AMC clutch. Centre is machined to fit all AMC gearbox mainshafts and later derivatives (Quaife, TTI etc). Sometimes it may be necessary to make minor mods to the clutch centre (spacer etc) to get the chain alignment absolutely spot on.
The standard centre requires a minimum of 22mm of gearbox mainshaft spline length (full depth, don't include the 'runout') to fit correctly, sleeve nut centres are available for shorter splines.
6 spring clutch, fitted as standard with steel plates & bonded fibre plates, however we can supply the clutch with alloy plates & lightweight fibre plates. Note that because the alloy plates are thicker, the clutch will only accommodate 3 alloy plates + 4 fibre plates which is good for around 60 hp dry, with the thinner steel plates we can fit in 4 + 5 fibre plates so that will transmit about 75 hp dry. 'Wet' plates are available, a totally different plate pack & more, thinner plates - that's 7 steel + 8 fibre plates (steel plain plates only - the alloy plate option must not be selected with wet plates).
The drum is made from Hard Anodised Aluminium, whilst the centre and pressure plate is self colour aluminium. We HIGHLY recommend you opt to have the drum lightened to improve dust clearing, and the pressure plate can also be lightened.
As standard the complete 'dry' clutch weighs approx 2.6kg.
